Ice Maker Repair — Book a Visit Today

Ice makers fail quietly. You don't hear a bang — you just open the bin one morning and find it half empty, or full of cloudy chunks fused into one lump. Most of the trouble traces back to a short list: a clogged or frozen fill line, a water inlet valve that won't open, a worn mold thermostat or optical sensor, a stuck ejector motor, or a drain that stopped draining on a standalone unit. Our technicians test the water path and the harvest cycle, not just the parts that are easy to reach. We work on freezer-mounted makers, in-door units, and undercounter machines across nine Southeastern states. Call us and tell us what the bin looks like.

Ice Maker Repair — residential ice maker being serviced

The ice maker symptoms we hear most

  • The bin is empty and nothing is moving Usually a water supply problem — a frozen fill tube, closed shutoff, or an inlet valve that no longer opens when called.
  • Cubes are hollow, small, or half-formed Points to low water pressure, a partially blocked fill line, or a harvest cycle firing before the mold is fully frozen.
  • Ice tastes like the freezer smells Old ice absorbing odors, a filter well past due, or a water line that's picking up flavor on its way in.
  • Water on the freezer floor or leaking down the door Overfill from a leaking inlet valve, a misaligned fill tube, or a drain path that's iced over on a standalone machine.
  • Loud grinding or a repeating clunk every few minutes The ejector arm or auger is fighting frozen-together ice, or the gear motor is stripping out.

Safe things to check first

Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.

  • 1Make sure the water shutoff behind or under the appliance is fully open and the supply line isn't kinked.
  • 2Check whether the ice maker's own on/off switch or arm got bumped off during a freezer reorganization.
  • 3Look at the freezer temperature — above about 10°F and the mold may never freeze fast enough to harvest.
  • 4Note how old the water filter is; a badly clogged one starves the maker even when everything else works.

Ice Maker Repair — quick answers

Is it worth repairing an ice maker or should I replace the fridge?

Depends on what failed. A valve, thermostat, or fill tube is a routine repair on an otherwise healthy refrigerator. If the sealed system is failing too, we'll say so plainly and let you decide.

Why did my ice maker stop after a power outage?

Control boards sometimes lose their cycle state, and a long outage can let the mold thaw and refreeze into a solid block. Emptying the bin and cycling power resolves some of these. If it stays dead, call us.

How long does an ice maker repair visit take?

Most visits are one trip. Diagnosis takes a while because we have to watch a fill and harvest cycle, not just probe parts. If a component has to be ordered, we schedule a return.

My ice smells bad even after I dumped the bin. Now what?

Replace the water filter, then discard the first two batches. If odor persists, the supply line or the bin itself may need attention, or the freezer is holding food odors the ice keeps absorbing.

Can you fix a standalone or undercounter ice machine?

Yes. Those units add a pump, a drain, and often a condenser to the list of suspects. Drain and condenser cleaning solves a fair share of the slow-production complaints we see.

Do you work on all brands?

We're an independent repair company and we service all major brands. Have the model and serial number handy when you call — it's usually on a sticker inside the fresh food compartment or along a door frame.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call us or fill out the form. Describe what the appliance does and does not do. Noises, error codes, smells, puddles. Brand and model help. That detail lets us plan the visit right.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose in person

A technician comes to your kitchen or laundry room and tests the machine instead of guessing. Controls, heating parts, motors, seals, drains. You hear what failed and what the repair involves before work starts.

  3. Step 3

    You approve the repair

Nothing gets replaced until you say go. Common parts are handled on site when we have them. If a part must be ordered, we tell you that up front and schedule the return.

Why homeowners call us

  • Symptoms, not scriptsA washer that fills but never spins is a different problem than one that spins but never drains. We ask questions that narrow it down, then confirm with testing. Guesswork wastes parts and your afternoon.
  • Independent and brand-wideWe are not tied to any manufacturer. That means we work on the big laundry and kitchen names side by side, and we recommend the repair that makes sense for your machine, not one brand's playbook.
  • Regional coverageBased in Huntsville, we serve homeowners in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, North Carolina and South Carolina. One number to call whether you are in a city neighborhood or a small town outside it.
  • Straight explanationsYou will hear what part failed and why, in plain words. If a machine is worn past sensible repair, we say so. Homeowners make better decisions when nobody is hiding behind jargon.
  • All major brands, gas & electricWhirlpool, Samsung, LG, GE, Maytag, Bosch, KitchenAid and more — as an independent repair company.
  • Straight answersIf it isn't worth repairing, we'll say so — often on the phone.
